The Marvel Cinematic Universe has had a huge influence on popular culture in this modern era. However, of course, all good or bad will surely end one day, including this franchise made by Marvel Studios.
First introduced in 2008, Marvel Studios presents various interesting stories over the last decade.
The MCU itself has succeeded in spawning three Phases which closed with Avengers: Endgame in 2019. Now, Marvel is undergoing the next Phase with various new projects that they have prepared.
With all the hype and popularity of the MCU, the big question then is how long will this last?
Will the MCU End?
The success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the world of entertainment is truly unexpected.
The MCU is the biggest franchise in modern cinema. Two of their films, Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, managed to break boxoffice records.
For now, they are probably the most victorious and successful. However, statistics and history note that every success will not last forever.
On the one hand, if the quality of the various film projects that are presented does not drop to the point of disappointing fans, of course there is no reason why the MCU should end or be finished in the near future.
However, with all the hustle and bustle of the superhero genre, of course we will reach a saturation point, which is what many comic book fans are worried about.
We can see from the Western genre, which was popular and exploded in the 1950s, then collapsed and crumbled in the 60s.
Fans and film lovers will certainly feel tired of the various superhero stories that are shown continuously.
So, is the MCU coming to an end? The answer is definite. However, it’s just a matter of how Marvel Studios slows it down.
Why and When Will the MCU End?
If indeed the problem is boredom with the superhero genre, where there are no more production houses that can compete with Marvel Studios, or maybe Marvel Studios is already at its highest peak, then it’s only a matter of time before it all ends.
Of course nothing lasts forever, there will be a time when there will be no more MCU films showing in theaters.
If we measure the MCU ship will be completed based on the events of the popularity of the Western film era in the 40s, which lasted for 20 years, then the MCU itself will soon be finished in 2028, or around Phase six.
At that time, it was not impossible for Marvel Studios to no longer dominate the box office. Or even worse, their movie fans have dwindled.
The Biggest Problem
Some fans – as well as those who have analyzed this – think that fatigue, or in other words boredom, will be an important factor in reducing fans’ interest in the MCU in the future.
Over the course of the four Phases, Feige and the filmmakers in the MCU have presented a lot of different stories, some of which get better resolution. While others are left empty.
With the size of the MCU franchise, as well as the number of collaborative efforts that have emerged since the beginning of the construction of this cinematic universe, it is certain that there will be no truly satisfying ending.
How will Marvel end the MCU?
If that’s really the end of the story you’re looking for, then the MCU will probably deliver something really spectacular. Something that has never been presented in this genre before.
So far, Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knights trilogy and Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man are considered to have good endings. Marvel, in addition to being able to close the story about the main character, must also be able to close the whole story.
This is certainly not easy, especially if they have to think about casual Marvel fans. Luckily, comics found a way to end a very big story, namely by rebooting. Secret Wars series masterpiece
Jonathan Hickman can be a vivid example of this. With the MCU set to introduce the Fantastic Four in the future, it’s also possible that Doctor Doom will reimagine reality in the MCU according to its image.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe may not be “over” anytime soon, but they will be “rebooting” or resetting. And even though the MCU doesn’t look like it’s going to die down for at least a decade, it’s still very interesting to wonder what it would be like if the MCU was really finished.
